## What must I register when hiring my first employee?

Last updated: 14 October 2026 Answer from Robo Company Secretary How we write answers

Set up employer registrations and payroll obligations with EPF, PERKESO and HASiL when hiring. Contribution eligibility and rates vary by age, citizenship, residence status and scheme; one percentage does not fit every employee. Check the official contribution schedules, EIS eligibility and monthly tax deductions before the first payroll, including for a director employed by the company.

For Malaysian employees below 60, the usual EPF shares are 11% employee and 12–13% employer, subject to the statutory wage table. Different schedules apply to older workers, permanent residents and non-Malaysians. Eligible non-Malaysians in the post-August-1998 member category generally contribute 2% each from employee and employer under the October 2025 rules.

### Key facts

- Apply the EPF statutory schedule, not a universal flat rate
- Check SOCSO and EIS eligibility separately
- Set up employer tax filing and PCB obligations
