Can I open a company while still employed?

Legally, yes — employment does not bar you from being a director or shareholder of your own Sdn Bhd. The real constraints are contractual: check your employment agreement for conflict-of-interest, moonlighting or IP-assignment clauses. Public servants have separate approval requirements before doing business. Incorporation itself requires no employer consent.
