Can I be my own company secretary?
Only if you personally hold the qualification — an SSM practising certificate or membership of a prescribed body like MAICSA. Two more constraints: a sole director cannot double as the secretary, and the secretary must ordinarily reside in Malaysia. For nearly all founders the realistic answer is no, which is why the retainer is a fact of Sdn Bhd life.
