Who can be a company secretary in Malaysia?
Only a natural person who is either licensed by SSM (holding a valid practising certificate under Section 241, Companies Act 2016) or a member of a prescribed professional body — MAICSA, MIA, MICPA, MACS, LS, the Bar and equivalents — and who ordinarily resides in Malaysia. A spouse, friend or employee without that qualification cannot lawfully hold the office.
