Can I hold shares for someone else as a nominee?

Nominee shareholding exists and can be lawful — but beneficial-ownership rules mean the real owner must be identified to SSM anyway, so a nominee no longer hides anyone. Legitimate uses are administrative (estate planning, custody); using one to conceal ownership from regulators, banks or a sector cap invites exactly the scrutiny it tries to avoid.

Statutory figures: SSM BO guidelines

Also asked as: nominee shareholder malaysia; trust shares proxy owner; hold shares on behalf.

If a structure only works while the true owner stays secret from SSM, it doesn't work. We'll structure the compliant version or tell you plainly that what's being asked for isn't available.

Key facts

  • Lawful for administration; BO declaration still mandatory
  • Concealment structures fail BO rules
